Days in Jerusalem

We have spent the last few days seeing the sights of old Jerusalem. Before we left for here, there was the 4th of July picnic and Melanie helped MC it. They gave silly awards to people and Melanie managed to sing a bit of "The hills are alive with the sound of music..." I think this was her talent! Actually she got a lot of laughs.
A taxi took us to Jerusalem and our hotel is really nice. It is about a 2 minute walk to the old city as we are across the street from the New Gate. We went all around the city - it's really a maze in there. Over the last two days we have seen the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, visited the Western or Wailing Wall, walked the Via Dolorosa (mom if you can't name the song we think of everytime we say that, you are fired!) and seen a lot of amazing things. The shopping is quite interesting and I find that Jerusalem is quite commercialism with shops everywhere full of all sorts of stuff.
Today a couple of the folks from the dig came to meet us for lunch and a little shopping. Melanie enjoyed seeing the girls she was really close to. We ended up back at our hotel where we went to the coffee shop (the M's had beer because it's good after a hot day!). This coffee shop had on the menu "cheese plate - served with cheese" which we all found hilarious.
To answer a few questions - the showers are like Greece, in fact our hotel shower curtain has tried to attack us. Melissa loves playing in the dirt, but not as much as Melanie. Melanie has talent - but it all comes in a very sarcastic manner - she is her mother's daughter.
Tomorrow we are renting our car, heading to the Holocaust Museum, and on to Tel Aviv. Send good thoughts to help us drive out of the city! We'll update again soon.
